Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, meaning “head of the year” in Hebrew, and marks the beginning of the High Holy Days. It commemorates the creation of the world and humanity, serving as a time for introspection, repentance, and seeking forgiveness. During this two-day holiday there will be prayer (with the shofar blown at various points during the Rosh Hashanah prayers), and symbolic food eaten, including apples dipped in honey to signify hopes for a sweet new year.
