In 2022, the CVUU is engaging in the Walking Our Talk project, which is a strategy for encouraging and facilitating the participation of our members and friends in social justice activities. Each member of the congregation, as well as non-member friends who identify themselves as wanting to participate, will be encouraged to participate in at least six social justice actions during the 2022 calendar year. Members will be asked to do at least one activity in each of the following categories – educational (e.g. attend an educational event that focuses on a social justice issue, write letters/postcards concerning voting), social action (e.g. attend a rally, forum, or protest about a social issue, write a letter to a person in power about a social issue), and financial (e.g. give money to the social action collections, donate to the Little Food Pantry). The Social Action Council will announce possible activities to the congregation on a regular basis.

The entire congregation has been divided into two teams and will be led by two members of the Social Action Council. Austin Evens will captain the “Social Justice Warriors” team, and Lizzy O’Loughlin will captain the “Make Good Trouble” team. (If a member has no interest in participating, they may opt out by notifying their captain.) Members and friends will be notified in January as to which team they are assigned. Team members can report their activities via the WOT tracking Google document or by phone/email to their team captains. Team captains will report the progress of their teams regularly to the congregation, probably through the newsletter and occasional announcements. Members posting photos from a WOT activity to the CVUU Discussion Group on Facebook is encouraged!
